A Garden and Outdoor Patio Go Hand-in-hand

I love to garden, and when my family moved into a new home, I was very excited at the thought of getting to plan a brand-new garden! We moved to a completely different climate, so there was a learning curve to finding out which flowers and plants would thrive in the new location. Thankfully, the project was a success, but I realized that our family didn't get to enjoy the beauty of our garden without an outdoor living space to lounge on in the backyard. We soon found a local contractor with amazing ideas on how we could turn out yard into a beautiful, outdoor oasis. I enjoyed helping him plan and watching him build our new backyard patio, and I actually learned a lot during the process. I am eager to share what I have learned with others on my new blog!

3 Important Maintenance Steps For Your Garage Door

One of the most important aspects of your home is the garage door. It needs to be working correctly in order for you to put your car into the garage. You can keep your garage door working great by taking these steps.

Clean the Track

The garage door track tends to get dirty over the months, with things like dirt, debris, and even hair. These things can prevent your garage door from going up and down smoothly, and may cause it to squeak. This is why it's important to regularly clean out the track.

Cleaning the track doesn't have to be hard when you use a microfiber towel. This towel consists of interlocking fibers: polyester and polyamide. These fibers help attract dirt and debris to the towel, making it easy to clean. These towels also don't leave behind particles, so you don't have to wipe down the inside of the track a lot of times.

Test the Balance of Your Door

One of the most significant steps to take is to make sure the garage door is balanced. If it's not, the door may prematurely wear down the motor, costing you a lot of money. Testing the balance isn't that difficult.

First, make sure to disconnect the garage door from the automatic motor. Then, lift up the garage door halfway, and let it go. If your garage door quickly falls back down to the ground, your garage door is unbalanced.

To repair this issue, you have to adjust the garage door springs, which hold thousands of pounds in force. One wrong move could be fatal. For this reason, it's always best to have your garage door balanced by a repair specialist, such as Plano Overhead Garage Door.

Lubricate the Parts

It's important to lubricate the parts on your garage door, as this helps them work correctly and also prevents them from making any type of squeaking noises.

It's a good idea to use a high-performance garage door lube. This type of lube will prevent your garage door parts from rusting or corroding over the years. No oily residues are left over when you use this type of lube, so particles will not be able to collect on your parts.

Put this lube on pulleys, pivot points, cables, springs, the track, and the chains. This type of lube comes in a can, which has a thin straw attached to the nozzle, helping you apply lube into tight spaces.

The garage door is an integral part of your home, and it needs to be working great at all times. You can ensure this happens when you take the steps above.
