A Garden and Outdoor Patio Go Hand-in-hand

I love to garden, and when my family moved into a new home, I was very excited at the thought of getting to plan a brand-new garden! We moved to a completely different climate, so there was a learning curve to finding out which flowers and plants would thrive in the new location. Thankfully, the project was a success, but I realized that our family didn't get to enjoy the beauty of our garden without an outdoor living space to lounge on in the backyard. We soon found a local contractor with amazing ideas on how we could turn out yard into a beautiful, outdoor oasis. I enjoyed helping him plan and watching him build our new backyard patio, and I actually learned a lot during the process. I am eager to share what I have learned with others on my new blog!

3 Tips For Reducing Clutter In Your Home

After living in a home for many years, it is not uncommon for junk to pile up. Your closets may become a little bit fuller, toys may constantly litter the floor, and the garage may not have as much storage space as it used to. With spring right around the corner, now is the perfect time to get your house in order. Use the following tips to reduce clutter and regain valuable living space in your home:

Be Realistic About What You Need

After holding on to household items for many years, it can be difficult to part with things even if you never use them. Make it a point to go through a room or closet each month and be honest about what you really need. If you haven't worn, looked at, or even thought about a particular item in weeks, it needs to go. You may feel sentimental about some things, but if they haven't crossed your mind previous to cleaning out your home, you probably won't miss them. If you aren't quite sure about an item, like a piece of clothing, write the day's date on a sticky note or on a piece of tape and place it on the item. This will give you a better idea of when (or if) you actually use the item. If many weeks or a month has passed since you wrote the date, be sure to donate the item or place it in an off-site storage unit.

Hire a Junk Removal Service

When it comes to a deep spring cleaning that involves getting rid of a lot of old stuff, one of the biggest obstacles is getting the items out of your house. Most people don't have room to get rid of useless stuff in their garbage can, and without a truck it can be difficult to haul items to the dump. If you have a lot of old furniture, broken tools, random household goods, etc., pack what you can in boxes and talk to a junk removal service, like The Dump Guy. These services will come to your home and haul away everything that you want out your house--no effort is needed on your part, just answer the door and allow them to take clutter away.

Create an Organizational System

After spending your valuable time to get junk and other items out of your home, it is important to start fresh and have an organizational system. Closet organizers are easy to install and can greatly increase the storage space in your home. A nice wicker basket is a great way to keep your kids' toys stored and out of sight when not in use. Utilize untapped storage areas, like under the beds, to store seasonal items. Once you de-clutter your home, organization will be much easier and there is a good chance that you will be happier with the cleaner space.
